Case Studies – debis Systemhaus, Berlin (Germany)
Located very close to the Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, the debis-Haus is located in a district known as Daimler City. Designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, it was built in 1993, but the Daimler subsidiary debis didn’t move in until1997. Renamed Atrium Tower some 16 years later, it is considered to be one of Berlin’s most eye-catching buildings, and functions today as the home to news media channel N24.
Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, it is no longer a publicly accessible building. The entrances consist of twin radial sliding doors designed as interlocks with under floor drives. The doors have a diameter of 2900mm and a height of 2650 mm.
